Life Lately / by mmkeyes

Life as of late

So, we moved. For the past year and a half, we were the resident managers at the Elms Apartments. Initially, this was a really sweet deal. Low rent, flexible hours for Brandon, working together. We had some really strange situations come up during our time as managers (I suppose I'll have to write an entire post about some of the funnier ones), but it got old after awhile. Things went a bit sour between us and the property manager, and we were itching to get out of there, even if it meant nearly doubling our rent payment.

Now we're living in Northeast Orem, renting out the basement apartment of a nice, spacious place. I can't even express how lovely it is not to have to make sure we open the laundry/lounge at 8am and close them up at 10pm. That was the bane of my existence.

We've moved into a really nice ward that we already like, even though we do miss our married student ward a lot. We have beautiful views of Utah Lake from our neighborhood, and there are even some turkeys on our 2 minute walk to church.

We don't quite fit in with all the super-established, well-off families in the neighborhood, since we're still poor college students, but it sure is nice to get out of Provo. I'm not a Provo hater at all, but there's a time and a place for everything, and my time and place in Provo lasted a whole lot longer than I had anticipated.

Other than that, I've been working my life away at Qualtrics (and very grateful for the 2 months of free lunches we're getting right now), and Brandon has been trying to strike a balance between diving into real estate and keeping his grades high enough to graduate from BYU. Understandably, his motivation to get straight A's in Exercise Science is lacking, since he will be doing absolutely diddly squat with that degree. He closed on his first sale two days ago (!) and has another in the works, so we're excited about that.

Right now, though, this picture is the most accurate representation of Brandon's life:

My obsession as of late

I'm really struggling to focus on anything other than planning our upcoming trip right now. I pretty much feel like I'm going to burst with excitement all the time. I get really into planning trip details, so I have quite the GoogleDoc going, and the more I plan, the more impatient I get. I'm not at all sure how packing will go, since we'll be spending a week and a half in unbearable heat and humidity and the next few days in chilly autumn weather, but hey! Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof, right?

I can't believe I get to see my parents in less than a month. The last time I saw my mom was at my wedding (a year and 8 months ago) , and the last time I saw my dad was at the airport nearly two years ago. Wayyy too long. Our time with them will be short, and our travel time to make it happen will be long, but it will be so much more than worth it. If you're wondering exactly how much air travel time is going to go into this trip:

Hours in an airplane:      76 (!)

Hours on layovers:         36 (includes a 24 hour layover in Taipei, thankfully)

Wish us luck staying sane on the 12 flights we have, 4 of which are over 7 hours long.
